Mountainbiking – Downhill

Mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain biking can be devided into multiple categories: cross country, trail riding, all mountain, freeride, dirt jumping, downhill.

Downhill mountain biking starts up on a mountain and you follow the trail down. Today’s tracks offer jumps, steep fast turns and high speeds. Downhill is considered an extreme sport.

HOWEVER, at Casa Lena, next to the fast tracks, we also offer an easy version for beginners, that is not as steep and not dangerous.

Our favorite biking tour starts at Lago Ccocha. it is a beautiful lake located 2 hours south of Curahuasi.  It is located near the small settlement of Ccocha, at an altitude of 3 800m. The local people live very modestly and spend their days taking care of their animals and fields.

1-day trip:

We leave at 9 in the morning and drive 1 hours up the mountain. On the way we can enjoy magnificent views of the mountainscape as well as a panoramic view over Curahuasi. Once we arrive, we take a look at the lake and set off with the bikes. This trip offers you a beautiful transition in scenery, going from highland meadows to “the eyebrow of the Peruvian jungle”.  Biking will take us between 2,5 hours and 4 hours, which means we arrive in Cconoc around midday, just in time to enjoy lunch that will be prepared for us in the local restaurant. In the afternoon we relax in the thermal baths and set our way back to Curahuasi at around 5 p.m.

2-day trip:

Once we arrive at the lake, we set up our tents and then you can enjoy a scenic walk around the lake with magnificent views into the next valley. After the walk we eat our lunch and then you can choose to relax or go fishing. If lucky, you might even enjoy the flight of the Condors. In the evening we prepare a delicious barbecue with some meat, potatoes, fresh salads and … hopefully some of the fishes we caught….

In the morning, after a healthy breakfast with fresh fruits and homemade bread, we pack our stuff and set off to the hot springs of Cconoc. It will take us between 2,5 hours and 4 hours, which means we arrive in Cconoc around midday, just in time to enjoy lunch that will be prepared for us in the local restaurant.

In the afternoon we relax in the thermal baths and set our way back to Curahuasi at around 5 p.m.
