Lake Ccocha

Lake Ccocha is a beautiful lake located 2 hours south of Curahuasi.  It is located near the small settlement of Ccocha, at an altitude of 3 800m. The local people live very modestly and spend their days taking care of their animals and fields. This rustic atmosphere added to the beautiful scenery of this remote spot guarantees to put even the busiest mind at ease!

1-day trip- a visit with hiking/fishing:

We leave at 9 in the morning and drive 1 hours up the mountain. On the way we can enjoy magnificent views of the mountains cape as well as a panoramic view over Curahuasi. Once we arrive at the lake, you can enjoy a scenic walk around the lake with magnificent views into the next valley. After the walk we eat our lunch and then you can choose to relax or go fishing. If lucky, you might even enjoy the flight of the Condors.  Between 4 or 5 p.m. we return to Curahuasi by the same road.

A 1 day -trip combined with biking is also possible (See ‘Mountain biking – downhill’)

2-day trip:

Instead of returning to Curahuasi we set up our tents and prepare a delicious barbecue with some meat, potatoes, fresh salads and … hopefully some of the fishes we caught….

In the morning, after a healthy breakfast with fresh fruits and homemade bread, we pack our stuff and set off to the hot springs of Cconoc. There are three options: in car, by foot or by bike.

The walk takes about 5 to 6 hours and takes you down from around 3 800 meters to around 1500 meters above sea level . This offers you a beautiful transition in scenery, going from highland meadows to “the eyebrow of the Peruvian jungle”. On the way down we will stop to have lunch and arrive in Cconoc at 3 p.m. Biking will take us between 2,5 hours and 4 hours, which means we arrive in Cconoc around midday, just in time to enjoy lunch that will be prepared for us in the local restaurant. By car it takes us about 3 hours to arrive to the thermal baths. Equal to the biking option, lunch will be served in the local restaurant. In the afternoon we relax in the thermal baths and set our way back to Curahuasi at around 5 p.m.

It is also possible to do this trek with our Peruvian Paso horses. (See Horse riding)
